Acne Rosacea
If you thought you finally outgrew the days of pimples
and bad skin - think again! Surprisingly, many adults still
suffer from acne during their late 20's and 30's, even though
they had never experienced the problem in adolescence. There
are generally two types of adult acne - the more common form
called Acne Vulgaris, and the more rare form called Acne
Rosacea.
Unlike the more common form of acne, Acne Vulgaris, which
affects 85% of the population bwtween the ages of 12 and 24
years old, Acne Rosacea only affects about 5% of the
population, or 13 million people.
Acne Rosacea is a skin disorder that is generally restricted
to the eyes and face. This skin disease ordinarily affects
individuals between the ages of 30-60 years of age. Rosacea is
characterized by redness, pimples and broken blood vessels. At
the onset of the condition, an indiviual's cheeks may blush or
become flush easily.
However, as the acne rosacea condition
develops further: 1) redness will be especially noticeable
around the nose area and, 2) will spread over the
remainder of the face. In more extreme cases, a rosacea
inflicted person might experience enlarged oil glands in
the nose that can lead to an enlarged and bulbous red
nose. For those individuals suffering from this
condition, almost half will have issues with their eyes.
Eye symptoms include redness, burning, earing, inflamed
eyelids, or a scratchy feeling in the eyes.
With very few effective rosacea treatment products on the
market today, you might want to consider ZENMED's Rosacea
System as your first line of defense in
treating this skin disorder. Using botanicals and
natural ingredients to minimize skin irritation, this system
will help soothe your sensitive skin and reduce the facial
redness that is so common with rosacea.
Acne Rosacea is not dangerous from a medical
perspective, but it cannot be cured at this time.
However, it can be controlled with treatment. You must
learn the different stages
of acne rosacea to develop an
effective rosacea treatment plan. The goal of
the treatments is to reduce the symptoms and minimize
sensitivity of the eyes and skin.
The initial steps in developing an acne
rosacea treatment regimen is to identify possible
"triggers", conditions that exacerbate the condition. These
"triggers" will generally be different for each individual.
The rosacea generally flares-up when an affected person is
exposed to certain dietary or environmental conditions. A few
of the common "triggers" are: wind, exercise, hot baths, cold
weather, and certain skin products. Of course, this is not a
comprehensive list.
Besides avoiding identified "triggers", symptoms can be
treated with topical or oral antibiotics. Other acne remedies
utilizing vitamin A are prescribed in more extreme cases.
Many of these adult acne medications are only available
through your dermatologist. In addition to these treatments,
laser surgery is available as an acne rosacea treatment
alternative. It is generally reserved for addressing enlarged
tissue on the nose and for improving overall physical
appearance.
